Art, science, math and . . . onions!

WHAT:  1st, 4th and 5th graders tackle various pieces of a hands-on cross-curricular project (making dye from onion skins; constructing looms, weaving)

WHY:  Integrating science, art and math; exploring the use of natural materials; reinforcing understanding of earth science—plants and plant parts; experiencing the cycle of planning, planting and harvesting; applying knowledge of circles, fractions and measurement; engaging in teacher collaboration
